One man’s search for solitude becomes a fight for justice, family, and redemption. When Stannis Hopefield rides into the high country seeking peace beneath the stars, he never expects to find a frightened, starving boy hidden in the mist. What begins as a quiet retreat into the wilderness quickly spirals into a harrowing rescue mission—one that uncovers a dark secret and leads to a confrontation with ruthless men trafficking orphaned children. Armed with grit, compassion, and the loyalty of his remarkable animals, Stan must protect six vulnerable children, outwit dangerous foes, and rally his ranch hands for a daring stand against injustice. Along the way, he discovers that family isn’t always born—it’s forged in fire, courage, and love. A gripping Western tale of heart, heroism, and hope, The Boy in the Mountains blends the rugged beauty of the frontier with the emotional depth of found family. Fans of Louis L’Amour, Elmer Kelton, and classic Westerns will find themselves swept away by Andrea Smutz’s vivid storytelling and unforgettable characters. Rated G for General Audiences

She’s wild, fearless, and ready for anything—until a mysterious stranger gives her a night she’ll never forget. In the lawless boomtown of Deadwood, Calamity Jane is no stranger to whiskey, danger, or desire. When she rides in with a wagon train of misfits and miners, she’s looking for action—and maybe one more chance to win over Wild Bill Hickok. But fate has other plans. At Diddlin’ Dora’s, the roughest and rowdiest brothel in town, Jane finds herself face-to-face with a stranger unlike any man she’s ever known. Rugged, dangerous, and devastatingly skilled in more ways than one, he turns a routine night into an unforgettable encounter that leaves Jane questioning everything she thought she knew about pleasure, power, and passion. Raw, gritty, and unapologetically bold, Calamity Jane and the Stranger is a sizzling Western short story that blends historical grit with steamy storytelling. Fans of frontier fiction, strong women, and untamed romance will devour this daring tale. Rated MA for Mature Audiences

Loved Calamity Jane and the Stranger! What a surprise for her to be with Stannis! I always wondered where he went when he left his partners. Stan is such a 'bad boy' and I wish he'd visit me. 5/5

It may be strange and self-serving but I'm reviewing the two Free Gifts that are on the site. Jim Patton did a stellar job in narration. He brought the steamy brothel to life in Calamity Jane and the Stranger, and brought Stannis Hopefield's tenderness and care in focus in The Boy in the Mountains. The short stories were written based on the Hopefield Chronicles and research on the life of those women who came to the West and found themselves in brothels. And for those of you who like audio books, look for Hopefield: Evolution later this year! Thanks to all of you. Andrea
